Jonathan Martin's Blog: McCain doesn't pick up on Michelle Obama joke - Politico.com

So a man finally got a question into McCain and he had a very different sort of question.

The questioner noted that he had been educated at Princeton and Harvard and made more than $300,000 a year.

"How can I be proud of my country?" he asked.

Get it — he was mocking Michelle Obama and her statement earlier this year that her husband had for the first time in her life made her proud of her country.

Well, McCain either missed the joke or decided to ignore it and answer the question literally. I think it was the former because the individual asking the question had a thick accent that sounded to be either Indian or Pakistani, perhaps suggesting to McCain a recent immigrant grappling with America's image abroad.

Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

Well-- I guess we have heard the last of the "proud of my country' crap for awhile...

At the risk of sounding tasteless--I am wondering if somewhere in the RNC tonight---someone is not doing research on how to tie a hangman's knot. --Not for McCain, for themselves. At the very least--they are wondering if they can change nominees--or a discussion is ensuing if it is possible to keep him from speaking until November.

Seriously-in no mean spirit at all--I venture to guess---somewhere at the RNC someone is discussing how to keep his public speaking to a minimum before November. Someone is making a list of the seats they are about to loose.

I don't take that as a reference to Michelle Obama nor do I think that McCain was wrong in his response. Heh. I may be quick to jump on McCain's mistakes and honestly he has had plenty in this last week alone but I don't think this is one of them. Sounds like a question they ask everybody when they run for office (or ms. america lol) to me.
